Kids club
Fijians are amazing with kids - it is why Fiji is known as such a family friendly holiday destination. Let’s be honest though - everyone needs a minute to collect themselves after a long day at work (and Fijians work 6 days a week & 10+hours a day).
Our contribution is to have a consistent kids club run whenever we are in Fiji. We have created a space for children and teens to come once they have finished their chores after school. This keeps them out of trouble and exposes them to new skills and activities.
They share great Fijian language skills with us (like how to say your head looks like a chicken… you know the most important things), we laugh, learn, relax and share time together.
Mums, dads, aunties, uncles, cousins and grandparents also get an hour or so free to themselves which is a refreshing change of pace for them.
Fundraising $500 for
Books! Quality, popular, fiction, non fiction - ideally paperbacks because weight is an issue. We know that quality literature really impacts children’s ongoing literacy, curiosity, educational outcomes and English language skills. If you have some that you don’t use any more feel free to donate or donate specifically for books! Some examples can be found here:
Chess! We would love to teach the kids how to play chess (especially the teenagers). It is a great game to improve cognition, strategy skills, focus and it is fun! You can donate specifically to this project run by Ramey here:
Craft gear! Can you imagine being stuck inside one room with all your kids and a bunch of their friends with no internet, tv, books and games… and its pouring rain...
So to help them out we are going to get some craft activities and gear for them to enjoy! Think paint pens, coloured pencils, knitting supplies etc.
